New record: 11 athletes from our team to represent Ontario at Nationals in Calgary 2009

The Ladies' kata team: Julie King, Mabel Hsin and Josephine Chen who represented Canada at the Worlds in Tokyo last year, and at the Panamerican championships in Caracas - will once again be going to Nationals to compete for honours as the top ladies black belt kata team. This will be the third Nationals for two of the team members, the second for this group. Josephine trains with a dojo at the University of Toronto.

The Boys' kata team will be going to their second Nationals, after having to take a year when one of them had surgery and subsequent recovery. Once again they have climbed up to the top of the Ontario rankings for boys' team kata, and one of the team: Kyle, will be competing as an individual in Kumite as well.

For the first time this year, we have a Girls Kata team that has qualified on the Ontario team and will be going to Calgary. This is a very exciting time for these three young Women. Also competing as individuals will be Victoria Waterworth, also a veteran competitor at this level having competed at the the Nationals at least three times already; also Sanja who trains with the Shotokan Tigers when she can, will be competing as an individual. Sanja also qualified to compete in Tokyo on the Canadian CJKF team.

Please join us in wishing these athletes well, and congraulating them on their hard work!
